Labor Day bust

We had big plans for labor day weekend: 2 birthday parties and the Oakland Zoo with Caylie. Well, our plans were pretty much a bust because Mason got sick. We only managed to make it to one birthday party on Saturday.

Saturday night, Mason was very restless and fussy. When mama went to check on him in the middle of the night, he felt warm So she took his temperature...it was over 103! Mama broke out the infant ibuprofen and rocked Mason.

We decided to bail on Nate's first birthday party on Sunday. After Mason's nap, his fever was even higher - over 104! Since it didn't seem like the ibuprofen was working, she took him to the doctor. He said it was presenting like roseola, which is a sudden high fever for 3-4 days, followed by a rash that covers your entire body. It's pretty common in young kids between the ages of 6 months and 2 years. It's also contagious.

So to make sure that I didn't catch it, mama and dada decided to divide us up on Monday. Mama took me to Happy Hallow Zoo so I could hang out with Caylie and her friends. I rode the roller coaster and the frog hopper with Uncle Eddie, played at the playground and watched a puppet show. At the playground, one of Caylie's friend, Mia (she's 5), kept trying to play with me. But I just wanted to do my own thing.

When we got home, dada said Mason was really fussy all day and didn't eat very much. When he cried, he'd sound like a seal barking. So, mama took him back to the doctor. He ordered an x-ray of his upper respiratory area, basically his neck. Mama said that was really fun - not. Turns out Mason doesn't have roseola. He has croup, which is an inflammation of the upper airways. The doctor prescribed some steroid and warned mama that it was a stimulant. Great...just what Mason needs.
