Transition: Week 1

We've officially completed week one of our transition. I'm transitioning to pre-K and Mason is transitioning to the twos room. In fact, he's going to the same room (HB 9) and teachers (Ms. Darlene, Ms. Kathleen and Ms. Lilly) that I was in.

Our daycare does a gradual transition over the course of two weeks. In the beginning, our current teachers walk us over to our new rooms and we spend a few hours there. Over the two weeks, we'll spend more and more time in our new rooms. At the end of the two weeks, we'll be picked up in our new rooms.

So, how was the first week? A lot better than mommy and daddy expected! Here's a quick break down of the week:
  • Monday: Daddy and I brought a picture of our family to my new classroom. That way if I started to feel anxious or sad, I could just get the picture to make myself feel better. It worked. I didn't cry at all! And neither did Mason (even though he didn't have a family picture in his new classroom)!
  • Tuesday: No tears from either me or Mason
  • Wednesday: No tears from me, but Mason cried when he was dropped off in his new room.
  • Thursday: Same as Wednesday.
  • Friday: No tears from me. Mason cried when he was dropped off in his new room and again after lunch when they turned the lights down for nap time. Good thing daddy and mommy picked us up early today.
Mommy and daddy are very proud of me and hope that my transition continues to go smoothly. As for Mason, they know he'll be okay (eventually). It'll just take a bit of time for him to get comfortable. I try to console Mason by telling him, "It's okay. Don't cry." I really liked HB 9, and I know he will too.

Let's hope next week is another good transition week for me and that Mason doesn't cry as much.
