Pizza, french fries and snow

Grey invited us to Tahoe for a 4 day weekend. Unlike last year, it wasn't for his birthday, there was one less family, and there wasn't nearly as much snow. But this year, I learned to ski! Here's a recap of our weekend.

Friday (1/10): Mommy and daddy picked us up from daycare after lunch and we hit the road. We woke up grumpy in Sacramento, so we took a short break at Target in Sacramento. After running around the store and a snack, we were back on the road. Grey had to make an unplanned pit stop at a pediatric dentist in Vacaville. Turns out a cavity in his two front teeth got infected. He needed antibiotics to help with the pain and swelling and is going to have his teeth pulled. We all made it to the cabin by about 7 pm.

Saturday (1/11): Daddy and I headed out to Sierra at Tahoe for my first ski lesson while mommy and Mason hung out at the house with Grey, auntie Char and uncle Edric. Since parents are not allowed to go to the lesson, I had major issues separating from daddy. After crying for a while, I finally went with my instructor and got all my gear. Turns out there was another Logan in my class. We hung out inside for a while and eventually went outside with our skis. It was snowing! As promised, daddy was right on the other side of the fence watching me. Check out the video of my first day!

My instructor said that I was awesome and recommended that I move up to the next group. We headed back to the house after my lesson for lunch. While everyone else took a nap, daddy and I played outside in the snow. We made a snow shark and snow snail.

What did mommy and Mason do all morning? Well, they played outside with Grey and auntie Char. There wasn't very much snow, but there was enough to make snowballs and throw them. Mason had fun throwing the snowballs. However, he did not like wearing mittens. After a break for snack, they headed back outside when it started to snow. They made and threw some more snowballs, tried to catch a snowflake and started to make a snowman. Mason and mommy didn't get to finish making the snowman because Mason was done after about 10 minutes.

Sunday (1/12): Daddy and I headed back to Sierra for a full day of skiing. I cried when it was time to leave the house and for an hour at the resort. I told mommy that I didn't like ski school because it was different and daddy couldn't go with me. Daddy bought me a stuffed turtle, Ski Turtle, at the gift shop so I could take it with me to ski school. That did the trick.

I had a different instructor today. And because it snowed on Saturday, there was quite a bit more snow. My instructor said that I liked french fries and going fast and needed to work on my pizzas. After lunch, daddy and I skiied together. We rode the chair lift and rode down the green run five times. I liked watching the snowboarders doing tricks on the terrain park while we rode the lift. I fell down getting off the lift the first time, but instead of crying or whining, I laughed. I had a great time skiing! Here's a video of me skiing with daddy:

Mason, mommy, Grey, auntie Char and uncle Edric went sledding at Adventure Mountain in the morning. Mason really enjoyed sledding, even though he and mommy wiped out on their first run. After each run, he'd say, "Again!" or "More!" He refused to walk up the hill and made mommy pull him up on the sled. She got a good workout hiking up the hill.

Monday (1/13): Time to say goodbye and drive back home. I can't wait to go skiing with daddy again. Anyone else want to come with?

Thanks for inviting us to Tahoe Grey! We had a great time! Let's make this an annual trip.

Transition: Week 1

We've officially completed week one of our transition. I'm transitioning to pre-K and Mason is transitioning to the twos room. In fact, he's going to the same room (HB 9) and teachers (Ms. Darlene, Ms. Kathleen and Ms. Lilly) that I was in.

Our daycare does a gradual transition over the course of two weeks. In the beginning, our current teachers walk us over to our new rooms and we spend a few hours there. Over the two weeks, we'll spend more and more time in our new rooms. At the end of the two weeks, we'll be picked up in our new rooms.

So, how was the first week? A lot better than mommy and daddy expected! Here's a quick break down of the week:
  • Monday: Daddy and I brought a picture of our family to my new classroom. That way if I started to feel anxious or sad, I could just get the picture to make myself feel better. It worked. I didn't cry at all! And neither did Mason (even though he didn't have a family picture in his new classroom)!
  • Tuesday: No tears from either me or Mason
  • Wednesday: No tears from me, but Mason cried when he was dropped off in his new room.
  • Thursday: Same as Wednesday.
  • Friday: No tears from me. Mason cried when he was dropped off in his new room and again after lunch when they turned the lights down for nap time. Good thing daddy and mommy picked us up early today.
Mommy and daddy are very proud of me and hope that my transition continues to go smoothly. As for Mason, they know he'll be okay (eventually). It'll just take a bit of time for him to get comfortable. I try to console Mason by telling him, "It's okay. Don't cry." I really liked HB 9, and I know he will too.

Let's hope next week is another good transition week for me and that Mason doesn't cry as much.

Dropping my nap

When mommy took Mason to his two year well toddler visit, she got to talking about my naps with the doctor. Some of my friends no longer take naps or their parents are actively encouraging them to not nap so they'll go to bed at a reasonable hour. So, mommy was curious if we should do the same thing.

The doctor asked how it was putting me to bed at night when I napped. Mommy told her that when I took naps, I'd fight going to bed and stay up til 9:30 or 10 pm. Since that was the case, she recommended dropping my afternoon nap on the days that I don't go to daycare. She also said that I would probably be cranky in the evening for about a month or so.

Today was the first day I didn't have to take a nap! It was amazing! I got to play with my new LeapPad, play without Mason getting into my stuff, eat popcorn and watch the Niners game. Daddy says I was especially whiney in the late afternoon and evening. Mommy didn't really notice, but I think it's because I've trained her to tune it out.

So, what was the result? I went to bed at 8 pm without any fussing or protesting. Bye, bye naps!

Transition is a bad word

Before the holiday break, mommy, daddy and my teachers talked to me about my upcoming transition to Pre-K. Now that vacation is over, I know that it's coming soon. Well, I don't want to transition. Transition is a bad word.

I've brought it up with mommy quite a bit lately - when she drove us to and from school (daddy's still sick), at dinner and before bed. I've told her that I'm not four yet, so I shouldn't transition. I've told her that I'm going to miss my teachers. I've told her that I want to stay in my current room. I've told her that I don't want to go to Pre-K.

In case you don't remember, my transition from the two's room to pre-school was not good. On Friday, mommy talked to my teacher about the upcoming transition. She told mommy that I was extra clingy yesterday and seemed to have these "angst" moments. She agreed that I'm probably apprehensive about the upcoming transition. When mommy asked her for advice to help me with this transition, she said mommy was already doing it by talking to me and reassuring me that everything was going to be okay. She also recommended that we bring a family picture to my new room so that I can look at it when I start to feel sad.

Even though my BFF, Henry, is transitioning with me and I know several of the kids in the Pre-K room that I'm going to, I'm just not sure what to expect. What if the other kids don't like me? What if I don't like my new teachers? What if I don't like my new nap spot? What if the activities are different or too hard? Will we do circle time and art projects? Will I still see my old teachers? Too many what ifs and unknowns. I don't like it. But mommy says I'm ready for Pre-K and reminds me that I'll be okay. We'll see.

Guess who else is transitioning next week? That's riiight...Mason is going from the toddler room to the twos room. I wonder if he has the same angst that I have about transitioning to Pre-K. If he is, he's probably not able to express well it because he's still learning words.

Wish us all luck as we transition over these next two weeks.

Happy 2014!!

Happy New Year everyone!

While my buddies Matthew, Jeffrey, Kyden, Sienna, Edison and Lucas were partying it up at Matthew's NYNYE party, Mason and I were hanging with old people and Ethan. How come we didn't go to Matthew's party? Because mommy and daddy had the nerve to plan something called date night. Don't they know that their entire lives, including their social calendar, is controlled by me and Mason?! Who do they think they are?!

I'm not really that upset about missing Matthew's party because it's always fun spending time with grandma and grandpa. (Sorry, about calling you old...but anyone older than 10 is old to me.) While mommy and daddy were eating some fancy dinner and watching something called Book of Mormon, Ethan, Mason and I ate grandpa's famous cioppino, played Wii, watched Turbo and ate custard pie.

Today we were supposed to go visit daddy's family and eat special food. But we didn't because daddy got sick. See that's what happens when you don't plan around my social calendar.  I hope daddy learned his lesson.

Anyway, Daddy slept all day while mommy woke up bright and early to take care of me and Mason. Grandpa and grandma helped out in the morning. I made a car with grandpa. He and grandma got a kiddie building kit at Lowe's.  Eventually, they had to leave to visit family. So, mommy packed all of our stuff and all of us into the car and drove us to Ethan's house. They had three very important things: 1) Tachi (he spent the night at uncle Jeff's), 2) coffee and 3) a TV she knew how to turn on and use.

We stayed at Ethan's house for dinner. Daddy didn't make an appearance the entire day. He just stayed holed up in the room, which is probably a good thing. He could've been the outbreak monkey and infected everyone else. Mommy was a real trooper - taking care of both of us, packing everything up and driving us all the way home from Ethan's house.

Mommy says 2014 can only get better from this point on. Happy 2014! I hope you all had a better new year than daddy. :)
